Re: My Name Escapes Me

Right now, very little. There has not been a contest for a while. I posted this two weeks ago. It doesn't seem that long ago that it was very rare for a mix to sit in the most-recent five list for over a few days, let alone three weeks.

Weird Turn Pro

May 18, 2009 by derhay

For an FTOTZ themed mix, I was given the option to choose one response from three different "favorite" questions, from the mixee, as the theme.

TIME OF DAY:
4:30 pm aka quittin' time

CHILDHOOD AMBITION:
A bionic, crime fighting brain surgeon (I tried for a few hours to compile tracks for this)

I chose brautigiggle's favorite QUOTE:
"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." - Raoul Duke (who existed only in the mind of Hunter S. Thompson (according to brautigiggle))

1. “A Message From Way Out” Cut Chemist
2. “Two Fat Feet” The Fiery Furnaces
3. “Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except Me and My Monkey” My Brightest Diamond
4. “Don’t Bring Me Down” The Minders
5. “A New Ferret” Sifl, Olly and Julio
6. “Princess Crocodile” Gry with FM Einheit and His Orchestra
7. “Shout Me Out” TV on the Radio
8. “Shoot The Sexual Athlete” Belle and Sebastian
9. “(Battle for Britain (The Letter)” David Bowie
10. “Girl That Speaks No Words” The Infadels
11. “Marie Provost” Nick Lowe
12. “Walkabout” The Sugarcubes
13. “Modern Inventions (Solex Remix)”  The Submarines
14. “Slow Life” Super Furry Animals
15. “Miami” U2
16. “Reap the Wild Wind” Ultravox
17. “Mayday (featuring The Duke Spirit” UNKLE
18. “Last Time We Met At a T&TT Concert” B. Fleischmann
19. “Butterfly’s Wings” Mercury Rev
20. “I’ve Changed Hotels” Jonathan Fire*Eater
21. “Out-Side” The Beta Band

I found some Office Max adhesive CD sleeves, intended for manila folders, that I use now for sending out mixes . I printed this image on card stock, with the sleeve attached to the back. The track listing was visible through the clear plastic sleeve. I rounded the corners and tried to make it look more like an iTunes gift card. The mix was well received, with tracks 2, 7, 8, 12, 16, 18 and 20 marked as most liked/enjoyed.

Most of these were songs that I had been listening to quite a bit.2, 4, 8-10 and 17. I found the image of the silhouette and antlers online and designed the rest, complete with UPC barcode and numbers. The tracks were listed as one paragraph under TERMS AND CONDITIONS. This is a mix I can listen to in the car, at work, walking and with my family.

My Name Escapes Me

May 18, 2009 by derhay

Hi, long-time fan, first-time caller. That is a fib. I only found this site today from cyberstalking sparkymonroe. I also recognize retrojoe too, from another forum. For my birthday, I had a license plate frame made that read, "derhay - Music Addict Since 1982". 1982, because I admit Thiller was the first tape that I played into the ground. Reading about music, hoarding it and compiling it has been my only hobby for some time. Glad to find a new arena. I really do not wish to wear out my welcome. Let me know when I am. See you in the halls, I guess.
