I'll admit it here, in black and white - I've never been a huge fan of the Carter family. However, their influence is undeniable, and hence this mega-gigantor collection is just brimming with excellent work. The biggest stand-out that I'm pleased to see, though, is the Kieran Kane track; he (along with Kevin Welch, with or without Fats Kaplan) is one of those oft-overlooked artists I wish more people knew about.

But man, this whole epic is frakking spectacular....!

I'm not very good at American musical history, especially not the time before rock n' roll, and I have to say that when it comes to the Carters, I'm rather clueless. But I do spot a few familiar names, and Emmylou is always fantastic.

Sigh. Where to start? So much to love. Too many great artists represented. And Kathy Kallick, too. What a pleasant surprise!

A nit to pick: Where's Norman Blake? He's got direct ties to the Carters and Homestead on the Farm could have been included.
