hey everyone. at AoTM i started out as a humble "fritz" in 2001. after the crash of whatever year it was, i became fritz1 for no apparent reason. since then i've been mixing and posting to my heart's content.
(fritz, by the way, was the name i gave myself in a college german class. i only had a foreign language name once in school, but that was in italian class. i thought it would be cool to have a german name, especially since i was planning to major in german. i started introducing myself with that name to people at parties, and it stuck - kind of)
in any event, my real name is also gabe, but i go by dafpunk in several online places. firstly, it's a twist on the french band daft punk. secondly, DAF is both the name of a german new wave band - stands for "german-american friendship" - and the german abbreviation (DaF) for "german as a foreign language". which all makes sense if you know that i'm writing a dissertation in german literature. oh, and i like punk rock in its many permutations.
i'm living in germany right now for the year on an academic exchange, so if anyone's in the neighborhood of frankfurt or mannheim, feel free to drop in and say hello!
