Hi there!

My name is Gabriel Chouinard, and I'm a complete musical addict.

I love music, and one of the greatest pleasures I've found in life is the simple joy of sitting down and creating mixtapes from the bounty of music I possess. I know you all know the feeling, because this is a site dedicated to making mixes; so I don't think I have to explain it to you.

I've been doing it for years and years. But it was only recently that I realized there were loads of others across the world who shared the same passion for mixes. I credit the website The Art of the Mix for introducing me to a lot of those people, and to be honest, this site exists as a deliberate tribute to that site. But there were problems there that I just couldn't ignore, so I found myself thrust into the position of founding an alternative site. Hence, Making Mixtapes.

Aside from being a musichead, I'm also a lot of other things. A father of three little girls. A writer. A sometime designer. A social services dude. I have a load of interests, too many hobbies, and far too few hours in the day to explore all the things in the world that fascinate me. But music has always been the love that ties everything together, and that's why I'm so passionate about it.

Welcome to Making Mixtapes. I hope you love it here.

It had better. Otherwise I may have to hunt you down and crack you upside the head a few times!

You go Gabe!

Hopefully this forum will ensure that the art of the mix does not die with the ArtOfTheMix.org. And more importantly, that the community and splinter groups that built up over the years continue to grow.

We should start a mixtapes.lefora splitters group before anyone else comes aboard...

Why hello there splitters-splitters!

Thanks for setting this up Gabe! I haven't been mixing recently, but perhaps the time and turkey this weekend will inspire.

Love,
Mike

Hey Mike, thanks for joining!

I'm curious how many people will be mixing this long weekend, and how many will succumb to turkey torpor and such.

Of course, the overseas contingent isn't celebrating, so they can still mix.

Bonjour Mon Ami,

I finally got around to joining, I've yet to navigate the site in full, that will have to wait cos I'm off on a trip to the UK any minute now.

Interesting to see you are a social services type, as was I before I moved to France (saw too many social workers whom I had the highest regard for simply burn out) So when my first daughter was born we used it as an excuse to split from the UK for a more 'alternative' life in France. Can't say I've missed social work at all, so enough said there.

Many thanks for starting this site, I'm a creature of habit so think I'll keep up with AotM but after my return from Blighty I look forward to submitting my first mix round these parts.

Love & Rockets,

Cliff.

Hey there,

Thanks for all the effort, Gabe. I had definitely given up on AotM at this point, so it sure is cool to have an alternative now. Admittedly, my presence on AotM was already spotty before the virus attacks started, nor have I been a very prolific mixer in the last year and a half or so, but it's always been good to check in every now and then to what y'all are mixing, and to occasionally take it as an inspiration to put something together myself. Now that AotM isn't that place anymore, it's good to finally have somewhere else go - and somewhere that has attracted so many of my favourite mixers (and favourite people) from the old haunts, at that.

Don't hold your breath for a new mix by me any time soon, though.

I'm actually a social worker as well, though I work in a school. Maybe we're genetically predisposed to make mixes and work careers with poor salaries.

A warm welcome to ofthaltnedcollectedsilencealex and French Connection. That is all.

Yes indeed, it is refreshing and thrilling to find the elite of that other site swinging by and posting. You all know how to make me happy, don't you?
