Some Notes On Functionality

I just wanted to point out a few little things I like about this forum.

For starters, you can either embed a photo in your post from a host like Photobucket or Flickr... or you can directly upload your image to the server. That allows some flexibility in how you go about arranging your posts.

There are also options at the top of each topic allowing you to subscribe to your topics via RSS or email. Handy for keeping track of replies!

Another interesting thing is if you click on a member's profile, you are given that member's "blog", which is a compilation of their recent posts in their entirety. I can imagine how useful that will be when dealing with prolific folks like Doowad or Avocado Rabbit!

You can also use standard HTML in your posts. See? I did it! Which means if you want to link to a download of your mix, just use HTML.

As I've mentioned around, I'm still working through all the features here. I'll update this thread as I discover new things.

As you can see, you can edit your profile to include a photo, list your interests, add a signature to your posts, and the usual bits.

Another functional bit?

There's email within the site, which protects your personal email address if you're into that sort of thing.

And hi John!

No, I'm noticing that it's being a little twitchy. I'm checking it out on the support forum.

Apparently you can just type a link in your sig, and it will automatically convert it to a link; see my link to Mixing Science.

You can also use UBB code in your sig, or so I'm told.

I also want to let everyone know about the thumbs-up and thumbs-down you can find at the top of each topic.

This can be used to rate a poster's topic in a general sort of way. However, I can see it being used to help "rate" a contributor's mix, a bit like the different star ratings at AotM. However, one cool thing with the thumbs method of rating is that when a user clicks on another user's profile, it shows their highest rated topics... so it automatically filters those mixes that got the best responses to the top of the list on that user's profile, thereby creating a sort of evolving "Best of" for that mixer.

Granted, it won't be very functional while the forum still has just a few members. However, as we grow, I can see it working quite nicely, as long as we don't descend to the generic and automatic "star-rating" that I've seen on AotM. Here, the rewards will have to be dealt out with a little more attention and care.

I'm ok with that.
